German Club

Moderator: Herr Bloss

The QND German Club consists of juniors and seniors enrolled in German III and IV. They explore German culture through food, games, films, and interaction with native speakers. Holidays and seasons often provide the basis for these cultural activities. Young people learn most while enjoying themselves.

The juniors and seniors traveled to Chicago on December 10, 2003 to visit the Christkindlsmarket in Daley Plaza. After the ride on the Illinois Zephyr, the students marched to the Berghoff restaurant where they enjoyed the noon meal. The walk to State and Washington took no time at all. The students enjoyed the Waterford Glass animated windows at the Marshall Field Flagship. They rode the escalators to the Walnut Room and the viewing platform for the Waterford Glass decorated 50 foot Christmas tree. They walked across the street to the Daley Plaza where they visited an authentic Christmas Market brought from Germany. The booths are duplicates of those found in Nuremburg. Here students purchased genuine Lauschglas, hand-made ornaments, candies, music, and toys. They sampled German baked goods, foods, and visited with the vendors. Each booth was a new experience. This year's goal was not achieved. There wer no Rauschengel for the Classroom tree!

When we boarded the train for the return trip, the students were ready to sit for a while. Tired, but happy, we made the return trip to Quincy--playing Euchre. The trip is but a happy memory.
