ECCLESIASTICAL HONORS BESTOWED BY POPE JOHN PAUL II AND THE DIOCESE OF SPRINGFIELD IN ILLINOIS
DECEMBER 8, 2002

QND Principal Ray Heilmann was awarded the cross "Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice" (For the Church and the Pope). It is an award granted by popes since the time of Leo XIII in 1888. The current cross was designed by Pope Paul VI. It is a gold Greek cross bearing the image of the apostles Peter and Paul, and the name and coat of arms of the reigning pope. It is bestowed for outstanding service to the Church.
Executive director of the QND Foundation, John Spring received the "Magnificat" Award. It is a diocesan recognition established by the Most Reverend George J. Lucas on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois. It depicts an image of Mary and the Child Jesus taken from the icon, commissioned for the diocesan sesquicentennial, of "The Mother of God, the Life-Giving Spring." The reverse bears the diocesan shield and the inscription, "For Outstanding Service to God and Neighbor."

Msgr. Michael Kuse, member of the QND Board of Directors and QND alumnus, was honored by the Holy Father as a member of the papal household and given the honorary ecclesiastical title of "Reverend Monsignor." This honor is bestowed for the lifetime of the recipient, and is conferred with a diploma issued by the papal Secretariat of State.

Mayor of Quincy, Charles W. Scholz, also received the "Magnificat" Award. Mayor Scholz is a 1971 QND alumnus.
