Letter from the Principal (August '07)
August 2007 We have had some warm weather, but the spirit and excitement of the first few days of school have been outstanding. At the present time we have 459 students at Quincy Notre Dame High School. During the late part of the summer and even as late as the first week of school, Lori Shepard, Assistant Principal, and I have been giving tours to prospective students and their parents. We are blessed to have the public and private schools we have in Quincy. When businesses attempt to recruit employees it is imperative that educational institutions do the very best in marketing their schools. I always like it when the prospective members of the QND Family visit during the school day. Our students are the best spokespeople for QND. Thank you, parents, stepparents, grandparents, and guardians for entrusting QND with your children. They are wonderful.
For the third year we will have a special opening of school Mass involving all the Catholic schools in Quincy. This Mass, celebrated by our own Bishop George Lucas, will take place on Thursday, September 6, 10AM, at Quincy University Pepsi Arena. St. Dominic, St. Peter, Blessed Sacrament, St. Francis, Quincy Notre Dame, and Quincy University will celebrate hundreds of years of traditions and support for Catholic schools. Please feel free to attend this wonderful liturgy.
Speaking of celebrating, this is QND's 140th anniversary! What an incredible testimony to generations of Quincyans who have exhibited incredible commitment to secondary Catholic education in Quincy. We are looking at some special events during Catholic Schools' Week, January 27-February 2, 2008.
Make a special mark on your calendar for September 19, 7PM, QND "Parents Meet the Teachers Night." This is a good opportunity to put a face to a name and learn the expectations of your child's or children's teachers. You will go directly to your son or daughter's first period class, hear some announcements, and then go through his or her schedule.
This is a big year for Quincy Notre Dame High School because it is "evaluation year." On December 11 we will be evaluated by the Illinois State Board of Education and the Diocesan Office of Education. A team of nine educational professionals will evaluate every aspect of QND. The work for this big day actually started during the summer. A great deal of research and data collection must take place weeks before the evaluation day. Six weeks before December 11 each evaluator must receive a booklet outlining everything that makes up QND. Evaluations are good for a number of reasons. The entire staff is working hard and there is no question that the evaluation will be a pleasant experience for students, staff, Board members, and you.
Please communicate with administrators, teachers, staff members, coaches, and moderators. Every adult at QND is committed to doing the very best for each young lady and young man. Thank you for your support, your love for your children, and your involvement academically, socially, and religiously with your offspring.
Sincerely,
|
