IHSA Cancels All Spring State Tournaments

April 21 – The Illinois High School Association announced that due to COVID-19 all Illinois state tournaments for spring sports are canceled.  Additionally, summer contact days are suspended. The IHSA Board of Directors is open to potentially resuming summer contact and spring sport games (with the exception of a state tournament) after it is deemed safe. They will keep all schools updated when we get to that point.

“My heart is broken for all of our spring athletes but especially this year’s seniors as they will not have the opportunity to compete for a state championship.” – QND Athletic Director Bill Connell

“To our QND softball family, there was obviously a lot of excitement heading into our upcoming season. The coaching staff, along with myself and Tracy, thank you for your commitment and hope we can all get together soon and celebrate the game we love at The Backyard.” QND Softball Head Coach Eric Orne

“I appreciate all the hard work my players have put in since the end of last season. I had no doubt that this team was capable of making a deep run in the playoffs. I feel for this group of young men.” – QND Baseball Head Coach Ryan Oden

“My heart goes out to all our athletes, especially our seniors. It’s a strange time we are living in. Even though you don’t get to play this spring, be proud of the hard work and dedication you put into your sport. It will pay off in the future.” – QND Girls Soccer Head Coach Mark Longo

“I just want to say what I think all the coach’s are feeling and that’s just a huge disappointment for all the players who are missing their spring season. I feel especially for the seniors who were supposed to have their last hurrah and now they don’t get to go out the way they deserve to. It’s just a really sad turn of events, but that still doesn’t make it easy to digest. I just want to thank our lone senior and Captain Bo Paxton for being such a great teammate and leader for our team the previous three seasons. He, along with several other guys on our team, had a great shot to make to state this season, so that makes it all the more disappointing. Bo is a three year varsity player and has done so much for our team. His presence will definitely be missed. I thought we had the potential to have a great season and be in the mix for a sectional title, but I just hope that makes the guys coming back even hungrier to succeed next year.” – QND Boys Tennis Head Coach Ben Klingner
