Greg Bernbrock

Greg BernbrockInducted 1996.  All-State Basketball Player in 1960, Went on to Coach at LSU.  Class of 1960.

Bernbrock, a 1960 graduate of Christian Brothers, scored 1,005 points in his four-year career and helped the Raiders win 93 games. He was named to the Champaign News-Gazette All-State team in 1960 and was named one of the most outstanding players in the state by the Chicago Daily News.

He was also a member of four baseball teams that had winning records, and he posted a .360 career batting average. Bernbrock received offers to sign with the Cleveland Indians upon graduation from high school, but instead signed to play basketball at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala.

At Spring Hill, Bernbrock finished his collegiate career with 1,039 points, fourth best in school history when he graduated. He was named a Catholic Collegiate All-American in 1963 and was also the recipient of the S. J. Mattei Award as Spring Hill’s outstanding athlete of 1963. Bernbrock was eventually named to the Spring Hill College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994.

He then became an assistant basketball coach at Louisiana State University for Press Maravich from 1964-72. From 1968-71 at LSU, the Tigers produced three NBA/ABA draft picks and six All-Southeastern Conference players. Bernbrock also coached the freshman team to a 50-21 record in five seasons, and his 1967 team was judged the best in the nation.

After leaving Louisiana State, Bernbrock went to work for Jostens, a leading provider of products and services for education, business and athletics. He now serves as the southern regional manager. He lives in Marietta, Ga., with his wife, Elizabeth. They are the parents of two daughters, Jennifer and Kimberly.
