Barry Moore

Not only is Barry Moore one of the greatest football players in school history, but he also is the only Notre Dame wrestler to win a state championship. He had a 50-3 record in his career and won the Class A heavyweight state title as a senior in 1981 when he had a 27-1 record.

As a senior at Notre Dame, Moore made 99 tackles and eight quarterback sacks as he was one of eight linemen selected to the Champaign News-Gazette top 33 all-state team as a two-way player. Moore caught eight passes for two touchdowns as a tight end. He was also an honorable mention All-American and The Quincy Herald-Whig’s Player of the Year in 1980. He played in the Shrine All-Star football game.

He played college football at Iowa State, where he started at nose tackle and defensive tackle. As a junior and as a senior, he was a co-captain. He was honored with the Arthur Floyd Scott award for the outstanding defensive player of the year at Iowa State, and he was also honored by the Variety Clubs of Iowa as the outstanding senior student-athlete in the state of Iowa. Moore played briefly for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League before returning to Iowa State to get his degree in engineering.

Barry, Sandy and their children live in Dallas, TX, where Barry is President and CEO of Brandt Companies.
